Afghan Allies Advocacy Day – Wednesday August 30th, 2023
Join CMC in calling your two Senators and House Representative to say that you want to see them pass the Afghan Adjustment Act AND the Afghan Protection Act of 2023!
The Afghan Adjustment Act (S. 2327 and H.R. 4627) would provide a clear, straight-forward pathway to permanent legal status, subject to robust security vetting, for Afghans currently residing in the U.S. under temporary status. Thousands of Afghans who fled their country are in the U.S. under a temporary status and have no path to permanent legal residency.
The Afghan Protection Act of 2023 (S. 1786 and H.R.3808) would authorize additional special immigrant visas and require a strategy for efficient processing to overcome backlogs for Afghan allies residing abroad who continue to live in danger due to their role supporting U.S. efforts from 2001 to 2021. Due to huge backlogs and red-tape, many of our allies who are technically eligible to immigrate to the U.S. via a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) are left behind because their visas have not been processed.
Our advocacy efforts will take place on August 30th, which is the anniversary of the conclusion of the US airlift out of Kabul which then left many Afghan allies and family members stranded.

Sample Script
“Hi, my name is [NAME], and I am calling as a constituent in [YOUR CITY/TOWN].”
“It is very important to me that [SENATOR X/REPRESENTATIVE X] support our Afghan Allies. In particular, I would like to see them advocate to pass both the Afghan Adjustment Act (S. 2327/ H.R. 4627) and the Afghan Protection Act of 2023 (S. 1786 and H.R.3808).”
[Establish why your issue is important to you and to our country:]
Sample: “I strongly favor the Afghan Adjustment Act so that the Afghans who have been living in our country for two years have a clear path to permanent residency. I would also like to see backlogs and red-tape cleared for our Afghan allies applying for SIVs. These families deserve more stability in their lives, and we should support these individuals as they have supported our country.”
[Ask your member of Congress to take action]
“I urge the [SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] to support the Afghan Adjustment Act and the Afghan Protection Act of 2023. Thanks for taking the time to listen and for passing my message along to [SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE].”
